This week will mark the end of 2nd Quarter! This week we finished up investigating greek myths. The students did a fantastic job! We practiced summarizing using "Somebody-Wanted-But-So-Then" as a guide. We also practiced comparing and contrasting literary elements and character analysis in stories.
REMINDER- Book Tweets are due January 12th! Each student was required to complete 5. Each tweet is worth 2 points. Both points are achieved based on effort and following directions.
This coming week we will be doing the following-
In grammar- We will be practicing using context clues since we didn't get to finish up with it last week. We will take a quiz on this on Thursday. See last week's post for some games to practice context clues.
We will have Flocabulary Unit 8 vocabulary test on Thursday this week (NOT FRIDAY due to the inservice day). Click here to practice the words and listen to the rap!
We will be studying greek allusions. We will be investigating their meanings by looking at their stories of origin and practicing using the allusions to describe situations or characters in other stories. There will be a quick worksheet quiz to check our understanding on Thursday. Click here to see the practice packet we will be completing this week! Here are the myths from which the allusions originated from.
For the students' first blocked class this week (Tuesday for Redhawks and Tigers, Wednesday for Bearcats) We will be taking a practice PARCC test. This will not be on computers but a paper pencil version. We will work on the computer/technology skills through some tutorials later in the next few weeks. You can click here to go to a tutorial to have your child practice using the tools they will access to on the real test. Click here to see an actual practice test by clicking here. Our first of 4 tests will be on February 25th!
Reading logs this week will be due for everyone on Thursday. Most students who read over break did show growth on their reading fluency scores! Reading often and reflecting on reading has such a great impact on student growth and success as a reader! Keep on reading!
Please encourage your child to work on the Reading Literature and Reading Informational Text activities on Mobymax.com! The more practice with the skills on this site that they have the more we can strengthen skills that students are individually struggling with.
That's all for now!
