Dear 4th Grade Parents:
I am so excited to be back at Springmyer as my maternity leave has come to an end. I want to thank you all, especially Ms. Powers, for your help and support during my leave. While I do miss my little Nora at home, I am excited to be back with the students! There are so many fun yet challenging units coming up to wrap up 2nd quarter and 3rd quarter will be here before we know it!
I am sending home a letter regarding book tweets tomorrow. Please sign and return the bottom portion by December 16th. All five book tweets must be turned in by January 12th. Requirements for the assignment can be found on letter as a reminder.
We are finishing up our poetry unit and will take a glimpse into drama as we examine both the adapted prose and drama versions of the same first scene from "A Christmas Carol". We will talk about the three components of drama: literary, presentation, and technical traits.
Our figurative language and poetry analyzing quiz will be on Monday December 15th. They are responsible for being able to identify and interpret similes, metaphors, hyperboles, idioms, personification, and alliteration. Practice sheets can be found in your child's reading binder in the reading section.
There will NOT be a required reading log over winter break BUT since book tweets are due on January 12th, I highly recommend that the students continue reading and try to complete a few before they return to school in January.
We will resume Flocabulary/Spelling in January when we return. We will be working on Flocabulary Unit 9.
As our argument writing unit has ended, all Penny Argument Essays should be turned in to me by Friday December 12th as a final deadline. Anything turned in after will not be graded as the students have had MANY opportunities to complete this in class and have had many reminders.
I wish you all a very happy holiday! Please feel free to email me with any questions!
Mrs. Dooley
