This week we will be starting my favorite unit of the year- ARGUMENT writing! We will be reading MANY real news articles and searching for 'claims" and "evidence" to prove claims. We will be taking a stand on the question- Should we still have pennies? We will be looking at this question through political cartoons, infographics, news articles, video, and opinion pieces.
Goals for the Week :
- I can explain why a reader uses direct quotes from a text to reach a logical conclusion.
- I can explain how an author uses reasons to support particular points in a text.
- I can explain how an author uses evidence to support particular points in the text.
- There will be a Spelling Test on Friday- Spelling Test #14.
- We will have a spelling worksheet to complete on Monday to practice.
- There will be a vocabulary quick quiz on Friday over words with the root "tele"
- A reading log was passed out before Thanksgiving Break and it will be due on December 6th.
To Do:
- Study spelling list week 14. These words are all compound words. We will practice this week! Click here to practice on Spelling City. This test will be on November December 6th.
- Study Vocabulary for the Week! We are practicing the root tele- You can practice them here!
- Remember to take AR quizzes! Our homeroom competition is close! Remember, that quizzes with high scores will help our homeroom totals and lower scores will hurt totals! Be sure you are ready for your quizzes when you take them!
- Practice on Scootpad.com Each student has been given an account! This is an excellent and fun way to practice the new Common Core Standards in math and language arts that we are working on in class.
Have a great week! I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
