Dear 4th Grade Families:
Our computers did arrive today! The students are VERY excited. If your child has not returned a signed copy of the Acceptable Use Policy for our district, they will not be able to have their computer on Tuesday. We are so excited for this new opportunity.
Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our Curriculum Night! We had a great turn out! If you were unable to attend, a yellow Language Arts Booklet was sent home with your child. Please let us know if you did not get one. As always, you can check our website for updates.
In Language Arts, we are continuing to work on character traits and will begin studying how the setting of a story impacts the plot. We will take our first comprehension test on Thursday and Friday this week. Reading logs are due on Friday. All students picked their own goals to work on this week for their reading logs. This week, we are starting the Unit 2 for Flocabulary (vocabulary/spelling). Our vocabulary packets are due on Thursday. Our test will be Friday, September 11th. The students will be tested on spelling those words on September 18th. We will not have a grammar lesson this week due to the short week.
In math, the fourth graders will be taking home their math study guide today. The math test is scheduled for Thursday-Sept. 10th. They can make a blank copy of the study guide for extra practice using the weebly website. If they need a blank hard copy please send Mrs. Townsley a note, and she will send one with your child. Our next unit in math is multiplication. Please review multiplication facts with your child.
In science, we are in the middle of our Earth Science unit on landforms. This week we will be wrapping up the content portion of our lesson. The students are filling out a booklet with notes and pictures about several landforms like mountains, volcanoes, deltas, peninsulas and canyons. We will be taking a simple test at the end of the week and then preparing for our hands-on project during the week of September 14th. I will be looking for some help from you to purchase or make supplies for our activities. The students will have a choice between making a volcano or a salt dough map of various landforms. Please be on the lookout soon for an email from me with a sign-up sheet if you would like to help with some of the materials. We would like to have these supplies by Monday, September 14th!
Have a great three day weekend!
Mrs. Criswell Mrs. Townsley Mrs. Dooley
