Dear 4th Graders and Parents:
The 2nd Quarter is off to a great yet busy start. We are still collecting pumpkins for the St. Joseph Orphanage if you would like to donate to help make the Halloween season special for those children. We also have conferences right around the corner. There are still a few spots available with each teacher if you wish to sign up still.
One thing that we want to make sure that the students really understand is that there will not be as many “redo” opportunities given for 2nd quarter on assignments. Now that students know our routines and expectations, we want to help them realize that they need to try their best the first time they complete a task. They need to make sure they slow down, follow directions, and complete all of what they are required to do. We are helping them to become independent and self reflective learners because of this.
Next week we will begin our study of Government! We will be learning so many things over the next 3 weeks. The students will be learning about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, especially the First Amendment. We will be learning about the three branches of government at a State and National level, and how our system of Checks and Balances works. We will be learning all about our rights and responsibilities as citizens of the United States of America.
In language arts, we will continue our work with text structure. We are looking at “blueprints” for paragraphs and deciding what text structure they are following. Next week, we will be doing menu work to help us practice this difficult skill more. We have a reading log due on Friday. We will be practicing synthesis statements (I used to think…. but now I think.. because) to help raise our thinking levels. This week is a vocabulary week with Unit 5 Flocabulary. There will be a vocabulary test on Friday October 30th.
In math, the fourth graders completed and checked their math study guides for Chapter 3. The study guides went home on Weds. Oct. 21st. Your child will have a math test over Chapter 3 on Weds. Oct. 28th. Please review with your child a little bit each night before the test. If you need a blank study guide to use at home, you can print one here have your child see me for a copy.
We will be starting our unit on factors, multiples, and patterns. It is important for your child to have the multiplication facts memorized. Our timed test for 2nd quarter will be over 50 multiplication problems in five minutes. Please continue to review multiplication facts with your child.
Thanks and have a great week!
