Dear 4th Graders and Parents:
It was so wonderful to see so many of you during our conferences the past two weeks! Please remember that if you have any concerns or questions to feel free to contact us! Grandparent’s night is Tuesday November 10th from 6-8 PM. As a reminder, we do not have school on Wednesday November 11th in honor of Veteran’s Day. Book fair is going on in the library. We will be visiting it on Monday during our Library time. Students will be able to purchase books at that time.
In language arts, the students are continuing the argument unit. We have practiced finding and making claims, supporting them with evidence and giving our warrants for the reasons. They have been researching the question “Should the United States keep the penny?” We have researched using all sorts of media- interviews, infographics, political cartoons, and videos. The students will be researching next week various questions and picking sides for those questions. We will be studying how to craft those arguments into publications next week! All the materials we looked at today are on Schoology. Next week is a vocabulary week! We will have a test on Friday, packets are due Thursday. They also were all assigned a “Which Side Are You On?” article to respond to that is due on Tuesday. They will be picking a side for the argument regarding school uniforms- one that they were excited to learn more about and had very vocal opinions about it in class!
In Social Studies, the students are focusing on three branches of government and the idea of checks and balances. Their test will be on Friday. Study guides will go home on Monday.
In math, we just completed chapter 5- factors, multiples and patterns. Corrected study guides are coming home today. The test is on Monday November 16th. Please continue to study. The blank study guide will be linked in a remind.com message. We will be starting division soon with 1-digit divisors, chapter 4. Continue to study facts everyday!
Have a great week!
